About Us
In 1976, a group of respected senior members from Geetanagar came together with a shared vision: to organize Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja celebrations in Geetanagar, Guwahati. This marked the founding of the Geetanagar Sarvajanin Durga Puja Committee. Beyond the festivities, the Committee took on the responsibility of preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage, ensuring that future generations would inherit and enhance their cultural, artistic, and social experiences.

Once a modest and semi-rural corner of Guwahati, the Gitanagar area near Bagarbari has seen remarkable transformation over the decades. What was once characterized by dusty lanes, stone quarries, and sparse infrastructure gradually evolved into a lively, self-sustained locality, complete with educational institutions, temples, markets, and modern amenities. Amidst this urban development, a cultural heartbeat has continued to bind the community together, the annual Gitanagar Public Durga Puja, a tradition that began in 1975.
